About this species
Prized for its aromatic heartwood and oil, cendana once made the island of Timor a centre of global trade. Centuries of harvesting have left it scarce.
A hemiparasite that draws nutrients from neighbouring plants, it is challenging to cultivate — a focus of Purwodadi's dry-climate conservation work.
