About this species
Ulin yields timber so dense it sinks in water and resists rot for a century. This very quality has driven intense logging across Borneo and Sumatra.
Slow-growing and slow to regenerate, it cannot keep pace with extraction. Botanical gardens conserve seed stock and study propagation.
